The Met Gala is always the first Monday in May. It’s an annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. The Met Gala is built around the principles of American style and celebrates U.S. design. This year it took place on May 2nd and the theme was “Gilded Age.” You are supposed to dress as what the theme is. You can watch the Met Gala on social platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The hosts for this year’s Met Gala were Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Anna Wintour has been running the Met Gala since 1995. This annual celebration of fashion brings people to New York from all over.

Apparently, it’s not easy to get into the Met Gala though. You have to get invited by either donating a ton of money, being an “it” celebrity, date someone who is super famous, become a TikTok star, work at VOGUE, perform at the Met Gala (or date the performer), sponsor the Gala, beg the maker Anna Wintour to get you a ticket, be a celebrity publicist, or become a waiter or waitress at the Met Gala. Usually around 600 people attend, but if you do get invited expect to pay 35,000 dollars for your ticket.

Additionally, at the Met Gala you walk along the red carpet while people take pictures of you, the guests get to socialize before sitting down for dinner with the special menu inspired by people from the past. The people who inspired this year’s Met Gala were Amirah Kassem, Melissa King, and Lauren Von Der Pool to express women who represent the rich diversity in American cooking.

This year, 2022, the Met Gala raised $17.4 Million for operating the institute and putting on annual blockbuster exhibits for other events similar to the Met Gala.

In conclusion, the Met Gala is an event to dress up and raise money. The guests enjoy the event and look forward to it every year. It contributes to American style and design while inspiring many minds.
